Peterhead-based Davidsons Blast Services (DBS) has completed a major contract with a leading back-deck solutions firm totalling a six figure sum.
The family run surface preparation and protective coatings specialist undertook the project by applying the specialist service of blast cleaning and application of a three coat topside paint system on Maritime Development’s (MDL) 75-tonne Portable Vertical Lay system (PVLS) and multiple reel drive system (RDS).
DBS’s uniquely designed blasting and painting facility based in Peterhead afforded the ease of manoeuvrability of the PVLS and RDS structures as the blast hall and paint booths can accommodate any structure transportable by road.
The success of the protective coatings project was largely due to the climate controlled paint booths allowing quick turnaround times, methodical planning of the blasting and painting schedule affording no downtime lost and highly proficient coatings team ensuring DBS’s right-first-time approach.
This 75-tonne PVLS system will support installation of risers and flowlines in a major North Sea Development throughout 2015/16, working as part of an integrated MDL spread consisting of a 4-track tensioner and 350-tonne multiple RDS, as well as horizontal and vertical deck deflectors.
Nicola Harris, commercial director for DBS, said: “This was the first structure of its kind for DBS and we were honoured to have worked on such a prestige project. We have been working closely with MDL for a number of years, and this is the largest project to date we’ve been awarded by the firm.
“Being selected to work with the company on their first PVLS project reinforces our expertise in the specialist industry of surface preparation and protective coatings, and highlights that we strive to supply bespoke protective coatings solutions to our clients’ specific requirements. DBS have an enviable track record for delivering an excellent quality service and unrivalled delivery performance.”
